Sunday 6/11 Action Opportunities

1. Attorney General Jeff Sessions had been scheduled to publicly testify in front of the Senate on Tuesday, but yesterday he cancelled his public testimony, choosing instead to testify to the Senate Intelligence Committee at the same time as originally scheduled, but likely behind closed doors. Sessions has already lied under oath, first testifying under oath that he had no meetings with Russian officials during the campaign, later recanting and admitting to two meetings. His testimony should be public, so that he can be questioned fully by the Senate, and be held publicly accountable for whatever testimony he gives. Contact our senators to ask them to demand Sessions testify in full public hearings.

  • Kaine: Washington DC: 202–224–4024, Manasses 703–361–3192, Roanoke 540–682–5693, Virginia Beach 757–518–1674, Richmond 804–771–2221, Abingdon 276–525–4790, Danville 434-792–0976, and his contact form is here.
  • Warner: Washington DC 202-224-2023, Roanoke 540-857-2676, Abingdon 276-628-8158, Norfolk 757-441-3079, Richmond 804-775-2314, Vienna 703-442-0670. His “Submit Comment” form is here.
  • Suggested script: “Hello, my name is _______, and my zip code is ________. I’m contacting the senator today to ask that he demand that Attorney General Jeff Sessions testify in full public hearings. Sessions has already lied under oath. His upcoming testimony should be public, so that he can be questioned fully by the Senate, and be held publicly accountable for whatever testimony he gives. Thank you.”

2. On the 8th, Senator Kaine introduced S.1328, which is “a bill to extend the protections of the Fair Housing Act to persons suffering discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, and for other purposes.” This month is Pride, and introducing this bill is a wonderful gesture which if passed will provide very important protections for LGBTQIA+ people from discrimination that can cost them the very roof over their heads. Contact Senator Kaine to thank him for introducing this bill.
